Our Story
When we, Shawn and Julie Hennigan, started The Farmhouse Meats, we were following a passion to know exactly where our food came from. As animal lovers and horse professionals, we wanted assurance that the animals providing our meals were well cared for throughout their lives, and that the land sustaining them was being preserved for future generations.
Shawn grew up raising animals and understanding what goes into proper animal husbandry. This firsthand experience gave him a deep appreciation for the care, commitment, and responsibility required to raise healthy animals in a way that respects both their nature and the environment they inhabit.
Our journey began with a partnership between Shawn and a friend, a third-generation Black Angus farmer whose 1,000-acre farm became the cornerstone of our meat offerings. Cattle are born, raised, and nourished on farm-grown feed, with just 30 days of non-GMO corn finishing for optimal flavor development.

Our Farming Philosophy
We believe that healthy land creates healthy animals, which produce healthy food. That's why we're committed to regenerative farming practices – rotating fields, avoiding pesticides, and using natural fertilization methods. It's a simple equation: without properly maintained land, we can't sustain the animals or ourselves.
As our vision grew, so did our partnerships. We connected with New England farmers raising heritage Berkshire pork with the same commitment to animal welfare and sustainable practices that guide our beef production.

Our Cheese Story
Shawn's knowledge of local agriculture extended to some fantastic cheesemakers on dairy farms throughout New England. After reaching out to those who shared our principles of animal care and land stewardship, we discovered their products were not only created with integrity but made perfect companions to our meats.
These artisanal cheeses have become such an integral part of our offerings that we decided to add them to our store. Whether paired with our meats or arranged on their own beautiful cheese and charcuterie boards, they've become a fixture at our family gatherings and a consistent favorite among our customers.
Our Commitment
We're committed to providing food you can feel good about in every way – raised humanely, grown sustainably, and delivered with a journey from farm to table. We invite you to taste the difference that caring for animals and land can make in the food that nourishes your family.
